From the Arabic word “al-qantara”, meaning bridge, Alcântara is where the 25 de Abril Bridge leaves land to soar over the Tagus. This bridge is the sister to the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, USA. The Alcântara Docks hugging the river, together with the Doca de Santo Amaro, draw weekend and evening crowds to its many restaurants and bars based in former warehouses.
